After an extensive search for a rust free dually, I stumbled upon this 79 C30. Just 6 hrs away I knew this was the one. The first summer I put a little over 6k miles on it. Then it was time for some upgrades.
Engine & Drivetrain
Chiquita is powered by a 6.0 L92 aluminum block LS. Motor was refreshed with new bearings, lifters, gapped rings and a BTR twin turbo cam. A custom turbo kit was fabricated with twin 67/62mm billet turbos. To handle the power we chose to use an upgraded 4l80e transmission. Circle D supplied us with a custom stall converter build to handle the abuse of this heavy truck.
Suspension
To get this dually sitting right we did a 6/8 drop along with a C notched frame to allow movement for the rear axle. I really didn’t want to sacrifice towing a trailer. So I chose to add a pair of rear helper bags with an airlift compressor. This simple combo made this slammed truck still have the capabilities to do truck things.
Fuel System
A proper fuel system is crucial when trying to make high hp. We chose to build a custom 48 gallon aluminum fuel cell mounted in the bed of the truck. The tank has four baffles inside to keep fuel at the pump pickup and to keep fuel from sloshing around. 10an fuel line feeds the rails from a Aeromotive 5.0gpm Brushless fuel pump. This fuel system is good for 1500 hp plus.
Interior
The interior in this 79′ was in great shape. Full sound dampening and a fresh carpet cleaned it right up. We wanted to keep the inside looking simple. An audio setup was installed with a powered sub hidden under the rear bench. A Holley EFI Pro Dash displays all the vitals needed to keep an eye on Chiquita.
Engine Bay & Cooling
We cleaned up some factory wiring under the hood. A big aluminum radiator with custom mounts was installed. To add some color to the bay all of the custom intercooler piping was powder coated “Nugget Gold”.
